Fall Youth Events Underway
With the excitement of school beginning comes the
excitement of another season of youth ministry at Concord UMC. The Youth
Ministry Team has planned a variety of activities all with specific purposes. In
September, the group will camp at Hillman Ferry to provide opportunity to
experience grace-filled relationships among one another and leaders. Also, a
special girls’ conference in October called REVOLVE, encourages youth girls to
grow in their individual lives of faith.
A service project in November will require students to faith in action. Also,
a mentoring program (You will be hearing more about this soon!) Will involve
adult members in the congregation and will connect students and their church
family more personally. The Youth Ministry team is Patti Fletcher, Sharon
Douthitt, Tommy Fletcher, Wade Poat, Jennifer Snook, Rick Dickey and Dale Julian
as Director of Youth Ministries.
MARK YOUR CALENDERS - NOVEMBER 4
This will be a Youth Pizza Fund-raiser at Pizza Inn. Our youth will be
bussing tables from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with tips, and a percentage of the buffet
sales going to the group. This is a great opportunity for all of us to support
our youth group and "Eat All You Want" Pizza.
Hello all,
I hope your day was God-filled! Today is the start of our
Bible reading group. Many of the youth said they don't check
their e-mail, or don't have one - so, I'm going to e-mail
everyone a copy of the Bible reading plan and let you print it
out. Each theme lasts for three weeks and has a title for each
day of reading. I think it will help us to focus on a main
point. I will be contacting you periodically to make sure you
are doing well with your readings. I know God is going to bless
this group and that our relationship with our God and Father
will be strengthened.
Here's a few tips to make sure your study
time is blessed:
1.) Decide on a specific time each day to
read - after you are done with your homework maybe.
2.) Say a prayer before reading -pray that you will understand
the scripture and that the Holy Spirit will speak to you.
3.) Try to remember what the theme is so
you can focus your thoughts
4.) Spend a little time reflecting on what God was saying to you
- did anything stand out to you?
5.) Say a prayer when you're done. Thank God for speaking through
his Word.
If you are a parent of a youth member,
please encourage them each weekday to read their Bible. If you
aren't currently reading your Bible, please join us. Maybe you can read
your bible together and discuss it as a family. That would be very cool.
I'll be praying for everyone.
God Bless,
Dale
